These images were produced for The Alan Titchmarsh Show aired on UK television in September 2011.
Viewers would email in photos of their garden and I had to produce a garden design and associated image to suit their brief, often a very brief, brief. The hard part was working out the dimensions of the garden from the photos which a simple 3D model of the main features of the existing garden could be built. This was then camera matched to the before photo which was then retouched to remove any aspects that may have interfered with the clean final image. A very simple 3D design was then produced and using the camera matched perspective, exported into Piranesi where it was composited with the retouched before image, textured, coloured and the all important planting added. Piranesi allows textures and images to be painted on a 2D image using the 3D depth and material cues from the 3D model.
