Duncan MacGruer - My Process:

This took me 6 minutes. I timed myself.

1. Generate a line drawing in VW

2. Doodle it.

3. Smudge a greyscale RenderWorks
rendering in Photoshop

4. Drop the Doodle over the RW drawing.

No, it ain't Picasso. But 6 minutes...

It's wicked fast; it saves me time. Lots of time. It's easy. It's versatile. I have more control over my results than I would with filters in Photoshop. I'm not deceiving anyone by using a plug-in; I'm just trying to get the work done & please my clients (and they love these drawings).

The best use of this, for me, is as a means of producing secondary illustrations in design presentations. I'll build a project in VW, export it to one of several 3D programs I use, and generate several large format beauty shots. With Doodle! I can generate scads of support drawings that enhance the presentation. I could use hard lined content straight out of VW, but why?
